Description of classes offered:

Ballet
- Ballet provides a solid, technical foundation for all dancers, as well
as a strong understanding of the mechanics of dance.
There are many benefits gained from the study of ballet, some
being: Discipline of mind and body, Coordination, Grace and Poise,
Muscle Toning, Good Posture and Correct Placement. |

Pointe
- Advanced level of Ballet where the dancer performs the work with a
Pointe Shoe rather than a Ballet Shoe.
There are requirements at Edge Dance Center for placing students
on Pointe, some being: At least five years of consistent study and
practice in the basic classes of ballet, Good Turn Out, Proper Balance,
Proper Body Placement, Sufficient Strength in Feet, Legs and Spine,
Strong Sense of “Center” (Core) and Good Physical Condition.
Placement in this class will be determined by the instructor. |

Jazz
- Jazz is a very stylized form of theatrical dancing which consists of
bits and pieces of dance techniques and styles from across the world.
The goals of a jazz class are many, some being:
Development of Performance Qualities, Development of Technique,
Development of Coordination, Enhancement of Musicality, Improvement of
Movement Memory, Improvement of Flexibility and Development of
Concentration and Stamina. |

Tap
- Form of dance wherein rhythmic sounds are created by the feet with a
Tap Shoe. Tap Dance can
help a dancer with Self-Expression, Rhythm and Musicality, the Ability
to Work with others in a Dance Group and help a dancer learn the Art of
Performance. Hand in hand
with Tap Dance goes Music Theory, which will be incorporated into all
Tap Classes at EDC. The
fundamental understanding of music and structure of music theory not
only aids the instructor choreographically, but also allows the
communication of correct information to the student. |

“Hip Hop”
- A word used to describe the era wherein new dance forms were emerging
from the streets. During
the “Hip Hop” era, Break Dancing, Popping, Locking, Street Funk,
Free-Style and Commercialized Styles of Dance (to name a few) emerged on
the scene. At EDC, the
students will study Counting Music, Movement Intensity, Sharp Focus,
Hand/Arm Gestures, Accents, Presentation and Personality in all of the
“Hip Hop” classes, as well as the styles mentioned above. |

Modern
- Modern dancers want to relate to the real actualities of life and
their emotions. Their focus
is to create a more down to earth feeling of expression.
There are many different Modern Techniques and Disciplines,
although, most stress the greater flexibility of the upper body and
torso, as opposed to Ballet, which basically teaches a more controlled
and specifically placed torso.
The Modern Dance Program at EDC is a blending of styles and
techniques that will offer the students a variety of choreographic
experiences. |

Lyrical
- Tells a story or conveys a message through expression or movement that
is fluid, smooth and controlled.
A strong Ballet background is a must!
The choreography of a Lyrical Dance must interpret the lyrics of
the song through the dancer’s movements, expressions and performance
skills. |

Early Edge Creative Movement
- An Introduction to Dance wherein children learn basic dance technique
and loco motor movements.
This program touches on Ballet Basics, Jazz Basics, Tap Basics,
Improvisational Skills, Tumbling, Following Directions, Learning Loco
motor Movements through Songs, Creative Expression and much more! |

Combo Classes
- The Combo Classes at EDC are broken down by age and concentrate on a
Progressive Teaching Method of Ballet, Tap and Jazz styles.
This class provides an overview for a young dancer and lays the
correct dance foundation and technique that can be carried with the
dancer from year to year as he/she progresses from level to level. |

Irish Classes
- The Irish Dance tradition includes Irish Step Dance, possible the best
known form of step dance, often marked by rigidly held upper body.
Irish Step Dance has two main forms: Hardshoe, a percussive dance form,
and light shoe, a form which is primarily about the movement, not the
